Meet OJ — Director of Rocket Growth Consumables

Hello, OJ. Please introduce yourself.    

Hello, I’m OJ. I joined Coupang three and a half years ago and work as the Director of Rocket Growth (RG) Consumables. RG Consumables covers a wide range of consumer products, including cosmetics, food, health functional foods, personal care, pet products, and beverages. We expand selections on Coupang and provide special experiences to customers by discovering best sellers and encouraging sellers with unique products to join Coupang.   

 

Can you describe what you do to help candidates understand better?   

The basic aim of Rocket Growth is “growth.” I think our core value is helping sellers to achieve sustainable growth with minimal resources through Rocket Growth. Our main jobs are to identify every difficulty of various sellers, help them resolve such difficulties through Rocket Growth, and accelerate their growth.  

 

What are your backgrounds? How do you think those backgrounds were helpful when you joined Coupang or in your current job? 

I worked in an IT company before joining Coupang. My responsibilities were commercializing new or improved IT technologies based on consumer needs. For this, I delivered final products to consumers through cooperation with various companies or national institutions.  

One thing that my previous workplace had in common with Coupang is that success comes only when you ‘wow’ and satisfy customers with products and services. I believe that the key to success is a deep understanding of partners and customers. This corresponds with “Dive Deep,” one of Coupang’s leadership principles. The principle has helped me significantly, driving me to dig deep into every stage of the work process until I fully understood what the issue was and finally come up with results.   

Tell us about the unique culture of Rocket Growth if there is any.  

I feel that Rocket Growth is a mixture of large corporations, startups, and foreign-investment companies. Despite being a large-scale business, RG embraces fast decision-making processes and rapid changes. In addition, we have people from various countries and backgrounds. I think our biggest strength is that we can make changes as every member works voluntarily and makes suggestions in a flexible atmosphere.  

 

Tell us about your most memorable or proudest moment since joining Rocket Growth.  

I remember how a teammate was all excited at the growth shown by a seller that he had discovered. The seller’s offering was a beverage launched by a small merchant. The teammate showed other teammates the product saying how good it was and was very satisfied as its sales soared after a couple months. It was a rewarding moment for both of us to see how the teammate valued the seller’s product as if it was his own and helped the seller achieve success.  

 

Do you have any final goal you want to achieve as part of the Rocket Growth team? 

Personally, I want to develop my competencies and grow as a person who can communicate well with my coworkers. I hope that my coworkers and I can continue to communicate and work together to achieve growth as much as our sellers and Rocket Growth do. 

 

Is there anything you want to share with potential candidates who want to join Rocket Growth?   

I believe that Rocket Growth will be the key axis of the domestic commerce industry in the future. Rocket Growth is a business that provides services that are most reasonably designed to meet the seller and customer needs, to which many will relate. If you want to demonstrate your ability to the maximum in an organization leading the domestic commerce industry and grow together with experts from various cultures and backgrounds, joining Rocket Growth will be a great choice.
